(David here) Ok, we spent the day with my parents and moved on as we needed to head out early anyway to get back to the dealership. As such we choose to head out this evening and drive just over half way to Jacksonville.
The above photo from left to right is my sneakers, Paul, Ann, My Dad Frank, Connie, Bobby, and my Mom Sadie. (Hi Mom!) We are all stilling in the RV just chatting about, well, the RV.
My Mom is more or less scared to death about us driving this beast that I needed to make a video to maybe help here get over it. Mom, here is a video made just for you.
So Mom, all is well. Not to worry. And I wish you would have gone for a ride with us so you could understand all is well.
All is all, we are off to the dealership in the morning. Seeing it is 11:31PM, time to rest. More tomorrow.
Oh yeah! Disney Power!

Moving on again.
Posted on March 31st, 2008 by DavidThe first visit and moving on.
Posted on March 31st, 2008 by David(Brenda here) Here we are Monday. Driving across Florida to visit The Bott’s. I’m actually typing to you while we are driving. Wireless is great! David is getting very comfortable driving now. It had to have helped with all the night time driving. One thing we are learning real quick is when you take a wrong turn, it’s easier to turn around in a parking lot. David had to do two K-turns already, in the dark no less, on main roads. But as the dealership told us…”Don’t worry about turning around, the cars will just have to wait. They have no choice, you’re bigger than them.” How true.
Yesterday we had a nice visit with my sister, Andrea and my mom. This was the first time we saw Andrea since July last year. She’s doing well. She’s making plans for teaching down here next year. So I’d saw she’s adjusting. Here she is checking out the view for the co-pilot seat. She’s ready to go!
Sleeping in this RV is nice. We were able to stop at the store and get a feather bed. David also, finally, got his coffee machine! It’s amazing how the headaches just stop when your able to get that morning cup of java. Now it’s feeling like home.
I think I’m going to stop here. David’s singing along with the radio and admiring the cows in the pasture next to us. Sitting so high up we see a lot more than if we were in a car. Nice views. I know, I know, we have cows in Rochester too. I’m sure we’ll see some different wildlife at some point. More later.
The Mother-In-Law
Posted on March 30th, 2008 by David
(David here) Ok, I said we would sometime have images…well, I did not think I would start this way. This is my mother-in-law Judi. She is looking for a man to spend the better parts of life with. 25, dark hair, 5’ 9” and 190 lbs would be nice.
In any case, I had to put this on-line as she was here and I wanted to just have some fun. More to come later.
Update to the 29th
Posted on March 29th, 2008 by David(David here) Ok, well, we just arrived at the Treasure Cost RV Resort in Ft. Pierce, FL. We ended up spending until 4:00 at the dealership today and we need to go back on Tuesday. Augh! Needless to say, plans are changing. But hey, we have until Sunday to get home, so life is good.
The main two issues were that the KVH sat dish is having power issues which makes it so it just keeps rebooting. So they need to order a part on Monday so it will be overnighted four Tuesday.
That reminds me to give a shout out to the moderators over at DBSTalk who are checking in. Hi! They want to know how I made out with the DishNetwork service. Not happening yet guys and no I did not post this address on AVS or DBS, keeping it to my friends and family.
One other part was also not installed, that being the Safe-T-Plus steering assist. Why, wrong bracket was sent. But I am kind of glad actually as the rig has a pull to the right and above 65 their is a vibration. So I hope to have this also looked at on Tuesday.
I worked hard today when they were working on the sat dish to get the webcam up and running. How I am trying to do this is a Verizon national boardband card put into a Cradlepoint wireless router. Doing this allows me to not only be on my MacBook but also have the wireless webcam also no it via the router. As long as I have a good cell reach, I should have full time Internet. I will improve this come Tuesday when I am back at the shop as I will also install a roof cell antenna for some really good reach to a cell tower.
Ok, so how was the drive? Well, 3 hours seemed like 5. It was really my first time driving it like this. I think it seems so long as I really was working hard making sure I was in my lines of the road. With it pulling to the right, it did make it kind of tired. It will get better with time as I get more comfortable and have it adjusted on Tuesday.
Oh, we will have pictures. It was part of my plan. But we have been quite busy and have not taken any. Sorry.
Ok, well, it is 10:53PM and time to get some rest.
So it begins, kinda.
Posted on March 29th, 2008 by David(Brenda here) Well, we were supposed to be on the road today. Enjoying our new home on wheels. Instead, we find ourselves right back at the same place we started…the dealership. When we flew into Jacksonville, FL yesterday to pick up the RV it wasn’t even close to being completed. When I say completed, I mean the pick list we had given them two weeks to work on wasn’t even 30% done! Boy were we not happy. You can just see the smoke coming out of David’s ears. Nice bunch of people here. You just need to light some fires under some people to get them to move. Maybe that’s just the New Yorker in me talking.
We were hoping to be on the road by 3pm yesterday, however we didn’t even leave the dealership until after 7pm. Then it was supposed to be a quick trip to Walmart to pick up some essentials. Let’s just say that quick trip turned into a few hours. Leaving in the dark now, driving for the first time, after a wrong turn down a residential street, we finally made it to the campground by around 10:30pm! Technically, it was only a couple of miles away. But in the dark, in an unfamiliar town, it doesn’t matter. Oh..but we’re not done there.
We still had to hook up our electric and water. That was the easiest part of the whole day! Then it was inside to make the bed, set some things up and don’t forget about checking the ever essential email. Once we settled down to get a few hours of sleep it was 12:45am. The dealership was opening at 8am so we were up bright and early to great them with our smiling faces.
So, our first night in our new home took some getting use to. Leveling jacks would work better if we had a level to see if we were actually level. However, when things start rolling, I’d say we can improve, with time and practice, in that area.
We really need a feather bed to go over this mattress. Oh, a Coffee machine!!! How is it that Walmart only has coffee machines that make a whole pot at a time. You don’t want to see David without his morning coffee. Thank goodness the Flamingo RV Park that we stayed in last night (nice by the way) had coffee in there shop. No coffee would have made for a very long day, again.
So, as I said earlier, we are back at the dealership this morning. As if they didn’t have enough to do, we had another list from the night before that we made. Little things like drawers needing to be adjusted and how did the comforter (that came with the RV) get wet? I think the cleaning crew got a little over zealous with there water bucket. Another thing that needs to be replaced. Cross your fingers we will get out of here at a decent hour. Our plan today, if all goes well, is to drive down to Fort Pierce, FL to surprise Andrea.
So, cross your fingers, put that seatbelt on, and hang on tight. Today will be an adventure with many more to come. See you in Fort Pierce! Bye for now. I have to go light some fires under some people. Where did I put that lighter?
The day has come! The RV!
Posted on March 28th, 2008 by DavidOh My Gosh! What have we done? We keep asking ourselves this time and time again. We then come back to the same answer, for each other. To make memories together, now, while we can. Yes, we are just nuts as you can see by the above photo. But more on that another time.
So we stated out our experience with a new 2008 Gulf Stream Tour Master RV. Yes, we purchased more or less as second home. Why? Why not? It will allow us not only to experience new things, but also be used for some business reasons like trade shows.
First we need to get to Florida. Well, we made the mistake of flying Delta as it seems that someone in the flight crew needed to get the paper work right as it had snowed that morning. The issues is, was it “snow” or “wet snow” and they had to wait to get the paper work corrected after they talked to the tower to get the correct definition. I am not kidding here…We sat for 40 minuets to clear this up and then another 40 for the plane to be de-iced. Well, we missed out connection flight for which we had 1:10 before it. Thanks Delta…this will be our last flight with you seeing your people seem to be clueless. Other planes were leaving just fine all around us, even other Delta flights. Go figure! BTW…Did they hold the other flight for us for 5 mins? Nope. 19 people missed the same flight. Thanks yet again Delta. (Side note…your coffee sucks!)
So we made it to Florida and purchased the RV from Dick Gore’s RV World in Jacksonville. Very, very nice people to deal with by the way. Ask for Jimmy “Your Friendly RV Salesmen”. Very nice guy.
We jetted down from Hilton, NY and had a “crash course” in the use of the RV gear. (No Mom, we did not actually crash.) We had to learn the electrical system and other things like how life in the RV actually works. Scott the service manager was great. He keep in contact with us all week as the RV was being readied.
First thing first, what to call our new home on 6 wheels? I want to call it “Enterprise” but Brenda will not go for it. I have the air horn that plays the start of the Star Trek theme. :) (Like in the movie RV) We do however what to get air brushed on the back “To Boldly Go…Because we can!” Ok, maybe just the first part. But really a name. This thing is 42 feet long, 8 foot wide, and 12 feet 6 inches tall. It is a beast. It blocks out the sun. So what to call it? I guess we will get that that point at some time. Sorry, was just thinking out loud. But we will by the end of this trip.
Speaking of the trip. We are taking 7 days to get back. Maybe 6, it is all in how we feel. But we have a number of stops planned at this time. (One of which included getting in on time….thanks again Delta for again failing us.) But all in all a stop to see Brenda’s sister Andrea and Brenda Mom who happens to also be visiting Andrea. Neither of them know of the RV purchase. That will be fun. We will also visit David’s Mom and Dad before starting our trek back to upstate NY. (The snow better be gone.)
