Laughlin, Nevada

Colorado River

Moving on up.  North that is.  We headed an hour north to Laughlin, Nevada today.  We found a really nice rv resort at a casino.  At least what we thought would be a really nice rv resort, turns out to be nothing more than a parking lot.  That wouldn’t bother us as much as what’s next door.  They failed to mention, of course, that they are located right next door to a drag strip!  Yup, actual drag races going on all weekend long!  UGH!  We’d leave, but we actually have a package being delivered on Monday.  Once that comes, we’re outta here!  Anyway, live and learn.  We were excited to see actual grass though.  Ah, however, dogs not allowed on the grass.  It’s just to look at apparently.  This place is weird.  We are definitely crossing this off our list.  Oh well.

Funny thing about where Laughlin is.  We started out in Arizona.  Nevada is north of Arizona.  However, we had to go in and out of California to get there.  We’re right on the southern tip of Nevada on the Colorado River.  To go into town, you have to cross the river.  Oh, by the way, every time you cross the Colorado river you change time zones!  And don’t rely on your cell phone (Joe) (inside joke) to tell you the correct time.  You don’t know what tower, in what time zone, you’re picking up.  UGH!

Monday can’t come fast enough.  I feel like we’re in the Bermuda Triangle of the Southwest.

David in front of the London Bridge

London bridge (originally built in 1831) is in fact not falling down.  It is alive and well and residing in Lake Havasu City, AZ.  I found an interesting article on the bridge and it’s history.  Here’s a link to the article.

As you can see, it was a beautiful day to visit.  It was in the 60′s and blue skies.  There was a man under the archway of the bridge playing his saxophone.  Lots of ducks and birds around, as I can imagine they are well fed because of the tourists.  All in all, a very nice day.

This guy came right up to us looking for food.

American Coot and many other varieties of ducks and geese populate these waterways.

My theory has always been, if you build a fountain, the people will come and visit. This has been true to all the popluar desitnations we have visited. Keep an eye out next time you visit a place, you'll always find a fountain.

Blue Skies and Football

View Outside Our Door

So here’s what today looks like.  This is the view outside our front door.  Nothing but blue sky.  Of course the play offs are today.  We couldn’t have rain today?  On a day that we are inside watching football all day?  Are you kidding me?  Oh well.  There’s always half time to take a walk.

Stormy Weather

Weather Coming Over Mountains

Batten down the hatches! California as you know is getting hit really bad with stormy weather.  Well, being close to the California border, we are experiencing some weather of our own.  The people here say this is unusual.  Rain and very windy.  Too the point that David put the internet satellite dish down for fear that it would get damaged.

Before we got hit with another round of rain and wind, David went outside and took some pictures.  This really shows the weather coming in over the mountains.  Those mountains you see are in California.  Below the mountains is Lake Havasu.  Lake Havasu is a large reservoir behind Parker Dam on the Colorado River, on the border between California and Arizona.

Today, thank goodness, there’s sunshine and a little wind.  Hopefully the worst of it came yesterday.

Heading Towards Lake Havasu

We are in Lake Havasu City, AZ now.  Home of the original London Bridge.  Yes, actually from London England.

We plan on staying for the week.  Catching up on mail and work.  Resting and planning our next adventure.

Reflecting On Quartzite

Reflection

Reflecting on Quartzite.

Days filled with endless walking looking at vendors ware.  Coming back to the rig to relax.  Having cocktails and dinner with friends.  Dust and dirt everywhere!  Remembering we are in the desert after all.  Sunshine and 70 degree days.  Sunsets over the mountains.  Cool nights bundled under the blankets.  Huddled around a portable campfire watching movies under the stars.

This was our Quartzite adventure.  It was definitely more fun with friends.  New and old.  We will miss them as we all venture off in different directions.

Raising our glasses in one last toast.  Hugs and info exchanged.  We shall cross paths again.  This I am sure.

Never know what you're going to find. David scouring the tables at a vendor booth in Quartzite, AZ.
