Home Sweet Giant Home

Crossing Into New York

So here we are.  Home again.  This feels weird.  This house is so big!  It’s amazing how we’ve acclimated to the rv and it’s size in the 5 months we were on the road.  It’s feels very strange being in such a large house.  We didn’t sleep very well last night.  Our first night back home.  You’d think we would.  But we got so used to the queen size bed in the rv that our king bed was huge!

First thing Tasha had to do was walk around the entire property and sniff everything.  It was interesting to see her expression.  You could see she wanted to get back in the rv like us.  The cats were indifferent.  They probably thought we had died or something.  Our Niece and her husband did a great job house sitting for us.  We are truly lucky to have such wonderful family that lets us go off on these adventures.  Besides, if they didn’t, then they could not live vicariously through us.

Oh well.  For better or worse, we are home.  We’re just going to have to look forward to our next adventure.

David and Tasha Reflecting On Our Trip

Our last evening.  Walking around the campground.  We reflected on our trip and all the fun and interesting things we have seen.  The sunsets over the mountains.  The giant cactus that towered over the rv.  The natural wonders.  The friends we’ve met, old and new.

We will be home this afternoon.  Sad and Happy.  Anxious and Apprehensive.  Looking forward to our next journey together.  We’re glad Tasha was able to make this trip with us.  She’s 14 years old now.  We’re not sure how many trips she will have with us.  She really made our trip special.

Next To Last Day On The Road

We left Kentucky, drove through Ohio, and are now in Pennsylvania.  We’ll be back at our house in Upstate New York tomorrow.  I know our family can’t wait to see us.  We’re having mixed feelings about being back.  We’re excited to be home and see family.  On the other hand there’s so much more to see out there.  I’m sure we’ll be planning our next trip soon.  We already have some plans in place for June/July.

You know how “they” say everyone has a twin out there some where?  Well, apparently that’s true for dogs too.  We found Tasha’s twin in the rv park we were at in Kentucky.  The difference is “Buddy” is a male.  And he’s 4 years old.  Other than that, he has the same face, same demeanor, everything!  It’s weird.  Other than Tasha’s brace on her knee, I dare you to tell them apart.

Construction Next To Campground

So, we planned on staying here in Bowling Green, Kentucky for a couple of nights.  When we checked in at the KOA they made no mention of the construction going on.  Once we paid for our two nights, we went to our site.  Being a Sunday evening nothing was going on.  Monday morning was another story.  Picture this, it’s 6:30 in the morning and you get woken up from a deep sleep by beeping and truck engines.  You think, Oh, it’s probably just the garbage truck.  But it doesn’t seem to stop,  7am,  7:30am.  Even the dog, who’s mostly deaf by the way, is up at this point. What is going on?  You get up and low and behold, construction in all it’s glory.  Starting at 6:30!!!!!  Who starts at 6:30?  Are these not government workers?

Loading and unloading truck loads of dirt with it flying in the air and it getting all over the place.  What a mess.  I can imagine when the afternoon rolls around it’s only going to get worse.  The green area in the photo is the rv park we are at.  You can see, on the right, is an electrical hook up for an rv site.  That’s how close this construction is.

We’re going to head down the road and get out of this mess.  Time to get rollin!

Oh What A Mess!

The RV In Chaos While Work is Being Done

So we’ve been a little tied up lately.  We had an issue with our bedroom floor a little while ago, called Gulf Stream, and got approval to get it fixed.  This is what happened.

A few months ago we noticed our bedroom floor had developed a soft spot.  That’s the only way to describe it.  When you stepped in a certain spot, it creaked and moved.  Not normal obviously.  So when we got to Florida, we took the coach into the dealership that we had bought it at, to get repaired.  When they peeled back the carpet, they found the flooring had dry rotted and black mold was formed.  The bedroom slide had apparently been leaking for a while and we never knew it.  The carpet had never gotten wet because their was vinyl flooring between the carpeting and the wood sub floor.  Thus, no wet carpet.  Strange I know.

Long story short, they had to do a complete rip out and rebuild, so we had to stay in a hotel until the work was completed.  That was definitely a new experience with Tasha.  Thank goodness it only took 3 1/2 days to complete.  I had terrible visions that when they started the rip out, they’d find something worse, and it would be two weeks.  All I can say is, Yeah! I was wrong.

When they finally did finish it looked wonderful!  New carpeting to go with the new flooring.  Nice Job!  Thank you Dick Gore’s RV World in Jacksonville, Florida for a wonderful job.  And kudos to Gulf Stream Coach for standing behind their product.

Ode To Spring

Beautiful Morning at Flamingo Lake RV Resort

Woke up early and saw this beautiful site out our windshield.  It’s such a great feeling knowing you can wake up anywhere, with any view you want.  If you don’t like your view, just move.  If you don’t like your neighbors, just move.  If it’s raining, move.

Life is always good in an rv.  Problems in an rv seem so much less worse when you’re looking at scenery like this.  As long as you have your health, your family is healthy, your pets are healthy, life’s good.  Let’s face it, nothing else matters in this world other than waking up every day and breathing.  You just have to be sure you are breathing the clean air of a lake, or mountain, or forest.  Whatever suits you at that moment.

So take a moment and enjoy Spring.  Enjoy the flowers, the buds on the trees, new life being created in front of you.  Life of the trees, of the forest, of the mountain, all around you.  Enjoy!
