Today is a lovely day. Not to hot, not to cold. Nice breeze.
Today was a day of relaxation.
Feeding the turtles. Fishing.
Perfect.
Here is the video that Brenda shot of the STS-131 Shuttle Discovery launch. Note how dark it is out right before sunrise and then take note how bright it gets even all the way over to where we were. The entire road and all the people were lit up! Then, at about 50 seconds or so in, the sound wave hit us, first you here a semi truck, who is driving during that!!! But right when the shock wave hits, it was such a rumble, it actually set off car alarms that are equipped with shock sensors. In any case, enjoy the view we have!
After the launch you think the show is over. Boy, were we wrong. The sun was just rising and the sky really put on a show. There really is no good way to describe it. Every minute brought a different beautiful site.
The smoke trailing from the shuttle made some wonderful designs in the sky. When the rising sun hit them it was spectacular. We called it the nexus, or ribbon. You know, from Star Trek. Don’t pretend you don’t know what I’m talking about. Take a look at the photos and judge for yourself.
What a wonderful and spectacular day.
We had such a great time watching the shuttle launch. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect. We parked in a parking lot directly across from the launch pad. As you may or may not be aware, the launch pad and Kennedy Space Center is across the Indian River. So we could not have gotten any closer unless we were on the space center property.
The parking lot was filled with other rvers. We all had a great time talking the night before the launch. It was like a big launch party.
When we woke up in the morning we were surrounded by cars! We were definitely stuck there for a while. But you know what, that was fine by us. When you’re in an rv, if you’re doing it right, there never is a rush.
Here are some more pictures from the early morning launch. I also shot a video that David will put online, at some point. This was definitely one of our highlights of our trip. An experience of a lifetime!
Just a quick update that we made it to the Space Shuttle Launch and were right across the water from it!!! It was outstanding and very worth the effort to get here to see it with the THOUSANDS of others. :) The best part is we are in the coach and thus all this traffic, still going on bumper to bumper, we just wait to clear out and then move on. WOW, WOW, WOW. When we get the chance, we will edit the video Brenda shot and get it on-line.
