Following Our Friends Jonathan & Dasy From WeGoFar.com

We just left our friends Jonathan and Dasy from WeGoFar.  We had a blast with them.  We only traveled with them for two weeks, but it felt longer…but in a good way.  We crammed a lot into those two weeks.  Zip Lining in the Birkshire Mountains, Acadia National Park, The furthest most eastern point in the US and Blueberry Land?

The Blueberry Land In Columbia Falls, Maine

The Blueberry Land In Columbia Falls, Maine

Blueberry Land in Columbia Falls, Maine is a very interesting building.  A giant blueberry building, surrounded by smaller blueberries can be seen from a nice distance away.  Like a giant purple mecca, you can get anything blueberry your heart desires, right here.  I did not know this, but Maine produces 90% of the blueberries in the US.  Blueberries can be found every where in Maine.  Every concoction you can think of are made with blueberries.  My personal favorite has to be the blueberry pancakes and scones.  Some I can do without are blueberry beer and blueberry flavored coffee.  Sorry Jonathan (he liked the blueberry beer).  David likes coffee, but blueberry coffee he draws the line at.  So, Blueberry land has every thing you can imagine, with a blueberry twist.  Plus, you can rule the blueberry kingdom while you are in the area.

So we were making our way to Freeport, Maine were the original LL Bean store is located.

It is a shopping mecca with outlet stores all over town.  It’s a cute town, very clean with lots of stores.  We were a little disappointed in the discount “outlet” prices though.  They didn’t seem very discounted to us.

Freeport actually has free rv parking behind the main street.  Don’t plan on staying long though.  3 Nights is the maximum aloud stay.  However, you may want to leave earlier than that because the lot that you can park in is very very tight.

We had our last dinner together with our friends Jonathan & Dasy from WeGoFar.

Oh and by the way, to say the cats are taking to traveling very well is an understatement.  Here is BK and Angel sound asleep on the couch as we travel down the road.

Lubec, Maine

Lubec, Maine

Lubec, Maine is on record as being the eastern most town in the continental United States.  It’s a cute little, no stop light town with more to offer than we had originally thought.  There were light houses, excellent pizza and the most awesome home made chocolate shop to die for.

The chocolate…OH MY! Monica’s Chocolate is to die for!  Monica hand makes everything.  And when I say everything, I mean she crushes and purees the peanuts, she hand makes the caramel, the raspberry wine truffle filling, the you name it she makes it by hand filling.  When we were talking to her she had quite the stories.  Of her home in Peru, to coming and marrying in the US, to opening and running her own business.  Speaking of running her own business, she has an amazing story.  She did not know how to make chocolate before coming to Lubec.  To make a long story short, she went to the local library, pick up some books on chocolate making, had her husband translate them as she spoke limited english, and started her own business.  Amazing!  And the chocolates…melt in your mouth.  I can honestly say that I’ve never had any better chocolate.  And she ships!  That could be bad.

West Quoddy Lighthouse In Lubec, Maine

West Quoddy Lighthouse In Lubec, Maine

The West Quoddy Lighthouse is the actual most eastern point in the continental US.  There is an island off of the coast that is actually the furthest east piece of land, but seeing that you couldn’t get to it, we’ll take this.  The lighthouses in Maine are certainly something to see.  There is a lot of history behind these structures and if you are lucky, you can take a tour.  We were not so lucky.  They only open up this particular lighthouse every so often for tours.  And there mostly for fundraisers.  It still would be interesting.  Oh well, maybe next time.

Campobello Island, Canada is just over the bridge in Lubec, Maine.  This is where the East Quoddy Lighthouse is located among other things.  While visiting the island you can spot whales, puffins and bald eagles.  We did not see any puffins, however we did spot some fin back whales, a seal and at least three bald eagles.  It was a rainy and drizzly day, so we were not there long.  The wind whipping up from the ocean was brutal.  And imagine…we saw fishermen out on there boats.  What hearty souls they must have.  I know this camper was thankful to get back to the MH for some hot chocolate.

President F.D. Roosevelt had a summer cottage on Campobello Island, Canada.  He spent every summer there as a child and loved it so much he built this summer cottage.  Yes, this huge place is a summer cottage.  It had a beautiful view of the water where he used to go sailing and swimming with his children.  It sits on one of only two International Parks in the world.  In other words, it is on Canadian soil but it’s an American park and historical building.  It has a lot of the original furnishings and fixtures.  You can take a tour of the residence and there are tour guides along the way to tell you about the place.  It was pretty interesting to say the least.

The campground we stayed at in Lubec, Maine was the Sunset Point Campground. It was a nice campground that sat on a peninsula.  So the views were wonderful.  The sunsets were beautiful, for lack of a better word, and it was right across the street from Monica’s Chocolates!  What more could you ask for?

Hiking In Acadia National Park

David & Brenda Taking In The Scenery In Acadia National Park

When I think of Maine I think of giant rocky cliffs and boulders along the seashore and light houses.  Actually I think the word boulder does not describe them best at all.  They are the entire mountain side, made of granite and they are all along the shore line in Acadia National Park.  There is a hiking path that allows you to explore these giant beasts and walk all over them.  Pretty cool.

We of course took way too many pictures.  Thank goodness for digital! The pictures really don’t do this place justice.  I’ll just let the pictures do the rest of the talking.  Sorry there are so many.  I couldn’t decide, they all are so beautiful!  To view them larger, just click on them.

…And Then There Was Pie!

Blueberry Pie

Blueberry Pie

Having dinner with friends.  What more could one ask for?  Oh…how about pie?  Blueberries are a very popular commodity here.  You can partake in anything you can imagine with blueberries.  We had wonderful blueberry pancakes the other morning.  Jonathan bought blueberry beer.  Which he says is interesting.  We are not a beer drinkers, so we’ll take his word on that one.  Dasy and I had to get blueberry preserves, YUM!

We have had some good dinners over the last few nights at our little picnic table.  But I have to say, the one thing we are all talking about is the pie.

Sitting in our MH one afternoon I hear a bell.  It sounds like an ice cream bell.  Well, it was actually a lady selling homemade pies right out of her trunk.  Now, I don’t recommend buying just anything out of a trunk, but these pies are awesome!  And how could you go wrong when they are still warm.

Beautiful Day For A Bike Ride

Biking Through Acadia National Park In Maine

Biking Through Acadia National Park In Maine

Acadia National Park has many carriage roads for bike riding and hiking.  We decided to break out the bikes and go for a ride.  We had a beautiful day of sunshine and blue sky.  The carriage roads are crushed stone and very wide.  Very easy to ride on. (Be sure to see the video below.)

David Looking Out Over Eagle Lake

We took the bike loop around Eagle Lake.  I’m glad we decided to start on the path to the right and not the left.  I say this because the path to the right was an up hill climb in the beginning.  Then it was much easier and flatter, then mostly down hill after that.  If we would have taken the path to the left, it would have been mostly up hill the entire way.  With just a small portion of downhill towards the end.  The people we had passed going the opposite way looked extremely tired from all the uphill climbing.  Even with our electric bikes it would have been difficult.

About half way around Eagle lake we came across a short path to Bubble Pond.  We decided to check it out.  Everything out here is just so picturesque.  To say it’s beautiful here is such an understatement.  So peaceful.  So much fresh air.  Such lovely and tall trees.

Window Awnings and why you want them.

Posted on September 20th, 2010 by David

Ok, this post is not so much about our travels, but more about the coach and more to the point, Window Awning.  Now you may say, why do you want to talk about window awnings?  Well you see, in the past, Brenda and I would talk about if we should or should not get a set installed and if it really helps vs the cost.  Seeing that we were asking ourselves this question, others may also be considering the same thing and asking the same question.

The below video will end the if we should once and for all with the help of technology.  In a quick word answer, YES!  We had the guys over at ShadePro produce and install ours.  They are at most of the major RV shows and you can have then done at the show as we did when we were at “The Rally” back in July.  So, here you go, asked and answered…

Why You Want Window Awnings…
