The other day we went into Bar Harbor for breakfast. That turned into an exploratory walk of the town. Being the tourists that we are, we grabbed our cameras and away we went.
Bar Harbor has a nice looking port that you can take ferry rides to the various islands that make up this part of the country (and Canada). We didn’t do that though. Just walking for us today. Looking at the old buildings and architecture. Browsing the tourist shops filled with their t-shirts and magnets. Having an ice cream cone.
What a perfectly lovely day of walking and browsing.

David & I Had A Wonderful Breakfast Of Blueberry Pancakes At Jordan's
Well, well. While flying model remote control gliders was something I had had done as a teen with my best bud Joe, now became a real flight in a real glider/sail plane.
As we were heading to the RV Resort Narrows Too in the Bar Harbor area, we passed a sign that read “Bi-Plane and Glider Rides”, I knew it was something we just had to do. So the next morning, yes, the next day, we did it.
The little office for the glider rides.
Below are some photos and take off and landing videos. A glider is a non-powered plane that is towed up into the sky by a powered plane and then the tow rope is released and we more or less glide/sail down to the ground again. We would highly recommend this if you are in the area. http://www.AcadiaAirTours.com

Bridge Of Flowers Sign In Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts
As I mentioned in my previous post, Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts is known for the Glacial Pot Holes and the Bridge of Flowers. The Bridge of Flowers is an old trolley bridge that was built in 1908. There are over 500 varieties of flowers over a 400 foot span. The Shelburne Falls Women’s Club is filled with volunteers that maintain the beautiful flowers all season long.

David took some wonderful up close pictures of the flowers. Sorry to say I did not get the names of the flowers. I must say, he does have a very artsy eye for this sort of thing.

Glacial Pot Holes In Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts
Shelburne Falls is a quaint little town located in the Birkshire Mountains in Massachusetts. This was the next town over from where we went zip lining. So we decided to check it out. Shelburne Falls is known for the Ancient Glacier Pot Holes and the Bridge of Flowers. I will touch more on the Bridge of Flowers in our next post.
Glacier Pot Holes Sign In Shelburne Falls, MA
As you can surmise from the sign, the Pot Holes are a natural wonder that were formed during the Glacier Age. The falls in Shelburne Falls cascade onto huge granite boulders that are pitted with these huge record breaking and not so huge, pot holes.
The town of Shelburne Falls is filled with quite a few art galleries, a yoga studio and a couple coffee shops. A cute little town if you find yourself in the area. Not much of a town to go out of your way to see.

David & Brenda Zip Lining Through The Birkshire Mountains in Charlemont, Massachusetts
We’re making our way to Bar Harbor, Maine and we decided to do a little detour. As you may remember, we are caravaning with our friends Jonathan & Dasy from We Go Far. We’re having a lot of fun traveling with them. Jonathan and David are so much alike it’s scary. At least David has someone to talk tech talk to that actually understands what he is saying.
In my previous post I had mentioned we were going on a zip line tour. We had never gone zip lining before and that fit the Outside Our Bubble quest. So off we went.
It was an interesting drive. Beautiful mountains and scenery. Windy roads with one hair pin corner we had to look up on Google Earth to verify we could make it! We did. Plus it made us feel better when we passed a semi going the other way. For those of you who drive big rigs you know what I’m talking about.
Once we set up camp…wait, we don’t camp. Once we leveled and opened our slides we settled into our home for a nice cozy evening. The next day (yesterday) we headed for the zip lines! There are two in the area, but we leaned more towards the Zoar Outdoor tour because they had an after Labor Day special. If you know me, you know I love a deal. There zip line tours actually are called Deerfield Valley Canopy Tours. Not sure why, but who am I to argue?
We had sooo much fun. We had nothing but blue sky and sunshine the whole day. What a wonderful adventure. The course took us on 11 zip lines, 2 sky bridges and 3 rappels! As you can tell from the video David was really getting into this zipping thing.
Our Fearless Leaders Kim & Kevin
We had wonderful tour guides Kim & Kevin, and they had a great sense of humor. We felt very safe and secure the entire way. We would highly recommend Deerfield Valley Canopy Tours if you find yourself in the area and wanting to zip through the trees! So Jonathan, Dasy, David and Myself are resting for a night and it’s on to Bar Harbor, Maine!

We made it to Massachusetts. Of course the first half of driving I did, as I did not want to drive the mountain ranges, it rained. As soon as David took over driving we had clear skies and sunshine. Figures.
We are planning on staying here, Charlemont, MA, for a couple nights. Tomorrow we are going on a zip line tour in the Mohawk Trail State Forest. The leaves are already starting to change color out here. So we’re hoping for some beautiful leaf peeping when we hit Maine. Can’t wait!
Not much happened today but driving. So I’ll share some photos I had taken along the route.
