OOBerfest 2017 Full Concert Video!

OOBerfest 2017

OOBerfest 2017

So OOBerfest 2017 has come and gone. If you missed it, you can read all about it here.

We all had a good time but one of our favorite memories, one that we are still talking about to this day, is the Notes From Neptune Concert we held.

You heard me right. We held a concert, out in the middle of the dessert of Quartzsite, AZ, dry camping, for over 200 of our friends/followers, with 5 huge bon fires and LED lighting provided from our coach. Oh….let’s not forget the tequila too :)

Notes From Neptune At OOBerfest 2017

In our previous OOBerfest post, we gave you a little taste of the concert.

But we really did not feel that was enough.

So David spent hours upon hours editing over 3 hours of raw video footage to bring you the full experience of OOBerfest 2017 Notes From Neptune Concert.

We hope that you enjoy this concert as much as we did. Now fair warning, it is 1 1/2 hours long. So throw it up on your tv, grab some tequila or wine or what have you and fully immerse yourself in the OOBerfest experience. We hope this brings a smile to your face. And to those of you that attended OOBerfest, we hope this brings back some fun memories of our time together.

Remember to use Full Screen view mode. :)

OOBerfest 2017….What A Blast!

Welcome To OOBerfest!

Welcome To OOBerfest!

Welcome To OOBerfest!

Welcome To OOBerfest!

So OOBerfest has come and gone. Even though there were high winds and it rained on and off all week, which was very unusual in this area, this time of year, everyone still had a great time.

What? You don’t know what OOBerfest is? Well, last year when we got together in Quartzsite, AZ in January, during the big tent event, to have a meet and greet for the first time, our guests named it that…OOBerfest. Get it? OOB…Outside Our Bubble? And you, being a reader of our blog are now dubbed our OOBies. And we love our OOBies :) So we decided we would meet up again in Quartzsite. This being our second year for this get together, we had 74 RV’s show up to join us this year! Wow! That felt great and is very much appreciated.

We arrived a few days early to try to stake our claim to our land. Thankfully, some OOBies were already there holding our spot from last year. That was great because as you may know, this is all held on BLM land. So it’s really first come, first serve.

We were able to get in one movie night before OOBerfest officially started. Hoping to get another in during our event, but alas, the winds were just too strong.

Tech Talks - Question And Answer Seminar

Tech Talks – Question And Answer Seminar

We had some great people come out and we had great seminars set up during our time together. We had a beautiful sunset that was the backdrop to our welcome talk. The following day the hardy souls that came out in cold (again, unusual for this time of year in Quartzsite) got treated to various seminars. Everything from coach weighing and the importance of the correct tire pressure for your weight to tech talks with David and everyone joining in on tips and tricks. During the few days of OOBerfest you had the opportunity to get your coach weighed, all four/six points and get a summary of what your tire pressures should be set at. A great service that Steve & Susan Kass from RV Weight offered at a small charge to our guests.

The evenings were filled with campfires and gabbing. Getting to know each other and making new friends.

The first evening while we were all getting to know each other, one of our guests brought out a pitcher of Sangria. This was so popular it was later dubbed, “OOBer Sangria” and many pitchers were shared throughout the event. So Thank You Kathy for a great memory and for those that are wanting the recipe, here you go!

One of our friends even brought their Hot Air Balloon as they are pilots in Napa Valley! Alas, no rides were allowed. They were helping their granddaughter get her hours in piloting the balloon as she was studying for her pilot’s license. That didn’t stop our guests from enjoying the early morning set up and take off’s, joining in on the chase crews and helping out where they could. Thanks Ken, Diana, Kristy and Grace for the enjoyment and excitement.

Of course Saturday was the opening of the big main tent event in town. Thankfully the weather cleared up that day, the wind had died down throughout the day and it was a nice day to explore the goods for sale that you know you could not resist. Well, some of us could :)

Set Up Bonfires For Evening Entertainment

Set Up Bonfires For Evening Entertainment

While everyone was out enjoying the day and shopping until they dropped, David, myself and a few volunteers set up some very large bonfires, closer to the staging area, for that evenings entertainment. So when everyone got back from their long days, we all got together for a potluck dinner. Of course with 74 RV’s, we had A LOT of food with a good variety as well. It was enjoyed by all.

And what better way to say Good-bye to our OOBies than to throw a big party out in the desert. So party we did. We hired a band from Phoenix to come in and play a concert for us.

We had 3 large bonfires by the band and 3 outer-ring bonfires going all night long!

Our coach was used as the lighting and staging area. It really worked out perfectly. We have to admit, we were stressing out a bit about the weather all week long. But in the end it really turned out beautiful for that evening’s entertainment.

Oh My! And entertained we were. Thanks to Notes From Neptune for a great concert in the middle of the desert. A different venue for sure for these guys to play.

Everyone, including the band, had a great time. They performed a lot of great songs, including one special request from us for “Purple Rain” by Prince. When they started up the song, everyone broke out their purple glow sticks (that were handed out at the pot luck) and waved them in the air as a special surprise for the band. It was well received to say the least. Grins from ear to ear. So much so that the singer, Thomas, even broke out his phone and recorded all of us waving our glow sticks in the air! An experience like no other.

BK Trying To Catch A glimpse Of The Festivities

And apparently we kept BK awake well into the night. He was trying to get a glimpse of the concert but alas, all he could see was the good time had by all.

There were, of course, lots and lots of pictures and video taken of OOBerfest just with our cameras and phones alone. So we created a link for a public album of all the photos that were taken, so that you may relive the fun. We also opened it up so that any of you that were at OOBerfest can upload your pictures as well for all to see what a great time we all had. So PLEASE upload some photos and videos. :)

Here’s the link to the album…

Time To Relax After OOBerfest

Time To Relax After OOBerfest

The next day was departure day for some but most stayed well into the week. Time to relax and chat with new friends. Sit around the campfires and reminisce. Exchange emails and info to keep in touch. Make plans to meet up down the road.

We, of course have to give a big shout out and Thank You to the volunteers that helped us park rigs, build fire pits and everything else! We could not have pulled it off without all of you. So Thank You!

And while the weather was a little off this time, with high winds and on and off rain, it did clear up towards the end of OOBerfest. And as one of our guests pointed out, it’s not about the weather, it’s about the friends and experience that make OOBerfest what it is. So we are thankful for everyone that came out to meet us and have a good time.

We feel very privileged that we have such a great following of people. We are lucky to be able to travel like we do and meet new and interesting people where ever we go. We hope that someday, if you have not run into us by now, that we may meet.

And who knows…

Maybe there will be another OOBerfest….

Someday…

Somewhere.

Until then, enjoy this video that David put together of our gathering in the desert, OOBerfest 2017.

GATHERING INFORMATION – Last Updated 12/21/2016

Thursday, January 19th – Arrival Day

* Arrive when you can today. Yippee! (Brenda and I will be arriving on the 16th to try to block off desert space. Special thanks again to Dave for helping last year.)
* We will try to arrange the coaches and RV’s, facing inwards along two lines. As you arrive and turn off into the desert, just look for our logo (8×10 paper signs) to make your way back to our group area and see one of us, or other volunteers (hint), for where you should park.
* 5:00PM – OOB Attendees Introductions and meet your hosts David and Brenda and ask the questions you may have for us.
* 7:00PM – Bonfire where you again can meet other OOB attendees and learn what the RV show is like and what to expect. Also tips and tricks on how to conserve RV resources in the desert. Please bring in some firewood to help out with our fires or we will be kind of cold.

Friday, January 20th

* 9:00AM – Coffee & Donuts chat at the campfire area. Grab your favorite mug filled with your coffee, tea or liquor of choice and join us for a donut and chat with fellow RV’ers.
* 10:00 to 11:30 –Tires and Weight – With so many common amenities it’s easy to overload your RV without even knowing it. Join Steve Kass as he discusses weight and tire safety. You can even set a time to get your RV weighed!
* 12:00 to 1:30 – Tech Talks – Have questions, we may have an answer or at least an opinion. After all, RV’ers help RV’ers so come join in on the questions on any topic for RV’ing and also help with the answers around the fire ring.

* 2:00 to 3:30 – Upgrades and Mods Chat! – Have you made some cool mods to your coach or RV that you think others also may like to do? This is the time to share your mods with others. If you are then interested in a mod someone did, set a time to go visit and see how it was done!
* 4:00 to 5:00 – UAV’s and the Art of Movie Making – Interesting topic by one of the few currently FAA licensed video UAV pilots.  From movies to TV shows, see hows it is done and hear some stories.

Of course, feel free to go along with other OOB members that you have met to team up and car pool.

ATTENTION FIRST TIMERS TO QUARTZSITE:

Ok, a quick few things. First…What you bring into the desert, you will bring out. Leave no footprint. When you arrive, you will need to check in with the BLM Host right when you turn on to Plomosa road. (No charge) Then you will head further down to road to find us.

You will be in the desert and will have NO HOOKUPS! Therefore you will need to be sure to have a full water tank and empty black and gray tanks. You should also have fuel for your generator. If you do not have a generator or enough solar panels to run your coach, this really is not for you as you will need power as well as heat. So conserving is the key, so bring and use paper plates, plasticware, and cups. Things that do not require washing! We will go over some tricks as to how you can conserve the first evening.

Be sure you have fuel in your tanks for the generator and heat! (Propane/Diesel/Gas)

There is a service in town called the “Pit Stop” where they will empty your tanks and fill your water with good water. They can also fill your propane tanks.

Even though there is a SMALL grocery store in town, it is not cheap. So bring in any food you will want. There are also a few restaurants.

For trash there is a local dump right down the road as you go into town with limited hours. Best thing is to use larger garbage bags and when needed, drop it off on the way into town.

Other than that GOOD LUCK! :)

If you are not already on our Quartzsite email list, see below, or we missed you and you want to join us, PLEASE let us know by using our contact us page to be added to our list or leave a comment below. January 1st, 2017 is the cut off date as we need to know how many by that point so we can save space. Thanks!

Thanks To All Our OOBies For A Great Time At OOB Fest 2016 In Quartzsite

Our Spot Out In The Desert

Our Spot Out In The Desert

Our Spot Out In The Desert

Our Spot Out In The Desert

Well, OOB Fest 2016 has come to a close. We had GREAT people come out to visit us and everyone made new friends.

We had some rv’ers join us that had never boon-docked before and others had been old pros at it. We’ve all discovered that it doesn’t matter what level of rving you have, everyone is welcome. We all helped each other as the week went on. As a matter of fact, David was called upon to help out with 6 different coaches that had different electrical issues that arose. Not something he had anticipated but he was glad he could help. We all would laugh around the bonfire at night about the Quartzsite Gremlins that seemed to strike. We were glad that it all worked out in the end.

We had a great Tech Talk that David along with others answered questions that other rvers may have had. This was a popular talk and we will be incorporating this again for next time.

The pot luck dinner was popular and everyone had made wonderful dishes to share with the group. There was hardly a bite left over when we were through with it.

We had some amazing hobbies, arts and crafts that people do while on the road. We had one woman showing off her beautiful hand made rings and spoons from antique buttons.

Another couple has a lathe on their seasonal site in California and they turned wood into gorgeous pens, bottle toppers and other items.

I on the other hand am not terribly crafty so my contribution was empty wine bottles that I turned into tiki torches. Useful and practical but not terribly crafty the way I do it, but others I have seen are just wonderful. Oh well. I guess I have to step up my game for next time.

David got his quadcopter out a few times and tried to go for his 2 mile record. The head winds were just not cooperating though so he was not able to fly that far. Oh well…there’s always next year. Others brought their quadcopters as well and it was fun to fly with other people.

We had two movie nights under the stars. One night our friends at Dish Network came out and joined us and brought along some door prizes. That was nice of them and we want to thank them for joining us and providing a large speaker for the movie. We only travel with a smaller set of speakers and we had such a crowd that a larger speaker was nice.

Every morning and every evening we had great bonfires to keep us warm. Out here in the desert, once that sun goes down, we had some chilly nights. We had a great gathering every evening for campfires and memories. Meeting new friends and exchanging ideas, recipes and favorite trips, we all learned a lot from each other.

Once Saturday came around it was time to hit the big RV tent event in Quartzsite. Most people went into town that day to shop til they dropped. The main tent even goes on for the whole following week so when you go is really up to you.

And as our thanks to our “OOBies” for attending our first OOB Fest, or “OOBerfest” as it is now called thanks to one of our members, we had made everyone t-shirts! It was great to walk around the tent event and see people with our t-shirts on. What a kick we all had when someone would eventually come up to us and ask, “What’s an OOB?”.

It was fun and to answer all of you wanting to know if we are going to do this again next year?

Well….

Yes. I think we will. A year out is a little far to plan something, as you all know, things happen. But from the looks of it, we will be doing another OOB Fest next year in Quartzsite.

Keep your eyes open for details as time gets closer.

So long for now and we hope to run into our OOBies on the road! Make sure that if you see us you stop and say Hello!

We love our OOBies and our OOBies showed us that they love us too. Thanks to all that came!

Hope you enjoy the quadcopter video that David put together for the first ever OOB Fest 2016! Please feel free to share it!

* 5:00PM – Pot Luck Dinner. Bring a dish to add to the table. (which reminds me, bring tables.) No idea what we may end up with, but that’s the fun of a pot luck. So grab your drink, plate, utensils, and chair and eat up. (We ask that food be placed at least by 4:50PM)
* 7:00PM – Campfire and Camp Jam (or Alt Movie Night). If you play an instrument, no Tuba’s please, feel free to bring it along and we will see if we can play something together. We also need people that of course can sing. Brenda and I can not. So we will TRY, and I stress TRY, to make this work as well as it being a sing along. :)

Sunday, January 17th

* The RV Show continues and so does your shopping. :)
* This is also departure day, if you so choose, as we have nothing planned other than a campfire. We do know most will stay till Monday for who really wants to leave after a day of shopping. :)
* Evening – Campfire for anyone still around or that is not too tired from all that shopping.

That is it for our first time doing an OOB gathering. Hope you like the ideas.

If you do not have a generator, this really is not for you as you will need power as well as heat. So conserving is the key so bring and use paper plates, plasticware, and cups. Things that do not require washing! We will go over some tricks as to how you can conserve the first evening.

There is a service in town called the “Pit Stop” where they will empty your tanks and fill your water with good water. They can also fill your propane tanks.

Even though there is a SMALL grocery store in town, it is not cheep. So bring in any food you will want. There are also a few restaurants.

For trash there is a local dump right down the road as you go into town with limited hours. Best thing is to use larger garbage bags and when needed, drop it off on the way into town.

Other than that GOOD LUCK! :)

Again…If you are not already on our Quartzsite email list, see blow, or we missed you and you want to join us, PLEASE let us know by using our contact us page to be added to our list or leave a comment below. January 1st, 2016 is the cut off date as we need to know how many by that point. Thanks!

Join Us In Quartzsite, AZ In January

Our Tiffin 45LP Allegro Bus

Our Tiffin 45LP Allegro Bus

OK….So we’ve been to Quartzsite, Arizona a few times over the years. It’s an experience that we feel RVers should experience at least once in there adventures. Some people like to come year after year and make it a wintertime destination while others like to come once and they are done. When we go, we like to shop, eat and have lots of fun in the desert. With friends of course.

Because what’s Quartzsite without friends?

Certainly not as fun.

So we thought to ourselves, wouldn’t it be fun to have an Outside Our Bubble group? We could have everyone circle our RV’s and share adventurers we have all had on the road. Heck, we can have pot-luck dinners, movie nights and bon fires. Here is our last post on Quartzsite for more information… CLICK HERE

So…

Come one…

Come all…

To the very first ever, Outside Our Bubble get-together, ever, and it will be in Quartzsite, AZ this coming January (2016).

The big RV show in Quartzsite, AZ is being held January 16-24, 2016 and that is the time everyone comes to Quartzsite.  And remember, the show is FREE! (And so is parking in the desert.)

We plan on doing the OOB Meet-up: Thursday, January 14 through Sunday, January 17, 2016. We choose these dates based on it being right before the show opening weekend so we can, we hope, get a large enough space for the number of RV’s that care to come join us. Also note… Opening weekend at the show is really busy, so you may choose to say longer if you do not like crowds. We are NOT parked near the show itself as we like it less crazy.

Movie Night Under The Stars

Movie Night Under The Stars

We will be having movie nights on our big 11 foot by 9 foot outdoor movie screen, weather permitting of course.

We’ll be doing a pot luck dinner at least one night.

Bon fires and get togethers. (Please bring wood)

Quadcopter demos. Bring your own RC craft and join in on the flying fun.

Anyone that has a craft they’d like to share, maybe we can do that as well.

Oh, if you play a guitar or something, maybe we can do campfire music jams or sing alongs.

We park, in the free BLM area, on the northern side of Quartzsite. About 5 miles north on route 95 is Plomosa Road. Turn east onto Plomosa Rd (right if you are coming from Quartzsite, left from Parker). Then drive about 2 miles in and on the left hand side you will see our sign for the Outside Our Bubble group (near where the Montana 5th Wheelers meet). Turn left there and follow the road back to the Outside Our Bubble gathering.

Ok, Ok, here it is on Google Maps with the GPS location of where we will be. (we are in the desert, there is no “address”.)

Google Map of Location – Zoom out to see area and roads.

Not sure what the Quartzsite, AZ Show is like? Well…here’s a video we shot last year at Quartzsite of the big RV show and tent event.

Here we are parked in the desert…

Remember…

The tent event is free.

The parking around the tent event and where we park in the desert is free.

Make sure you fill your fresh water tank and have empty black and grey tanks when you arrive. If need be, there is a place in town to dump and get fresh water if you plan on staying longer or if need be.

We dare you to find us! (Ok, maybe not “dare” you, but come join the fun.)

OOB Get-together:
When: Jan 14-17, 2016
Where: Quartzsite AZ – Plomosa Road – End of BLM camping area (Google Map of Location)
Why: Just for Kicks!
Bring: Firewood, Full Water Tank, Empty Gray and Black Tanks, Generator, snake bite kit (kidding) and Stories.

If looking to join us, please comment below.  We will then build a mailing list from the comments (Please verify your address) and use that list to keep everyone updated as we try to figure this out. This is NOT a professionally produced get-together, it is just for fun and what it will be is what it will be. :)

Hope to see you there!
