So while we are sitting around waiting for the newly redesigned fan clutch to become available in a couple of weeks, we decided to head out of Red Bay for some much needed rest and relaxation. Thanks to our friends Jim and Beverly, they mentioned a lovely town park in Florence, Alabama, just about an hour north of Red Bay that would be perfect. And perfect it is.
McFarland Park is located right on the Tennessee River complete with full hook-ups for only $23 bucks a night. Not bad for a little get away. We felt we could make it that distance on our current fan clutch so we made a run for it.
The campground is a first come first served basis, so no reserving sites. A call ahead to the office reassured us that their were plenty of sites open for a rig our size, and their were. We chose an end spot that was a pull through. Lots of room on either side of us. Quiet and peaceful. The Tennessee River behind us and a creek in front of us.
We do wish that when city officials were laying out this campground they thought about it a little better and faced the sites towards the river, but hey, we can’t win them all. Oh well.
Their’s some nice walking trails, a boat launch, disc golf and a putting range to name a few of the things that you can do here. We are just enjoying sitting outside watching the fishing boats and barges float down the river, having a relaxing lunch outside at our picnic table and watching the wildlife spring up all around us.
Oh, plus theirs lots of shopping and restaurants in the area. So there’s civilization up here. Not that Red Bay isn’t lovely in it’s own right. It’s just a little small and sparse for our liking.
We’ve had some beautiful sun sets and great weather while here. Which makes our little get away even nicer.
We’ll be going back to Red Bay next week to get our newly designed fan clutch installed. After that, hopefully we’ll get back on the road and start living our lives again. We feel like we’ve been put on hold this whole time. So it’ll be nice to get back out there and explore.
Pretty! And on a paved site!! Love it! But seriously, “Not that Red Bay isn’t lovely in it’s own right” Puh-lese!!! LOL!
Sounds like a wonderful place!
Thought you would get a kick out of our experience yesterday. We got to see and test drive our first 45LP. It was so incredible that we are switching from buying a 37AP to the 45. I asked the salesman about the fan clutch problem (he was clueless) and he called the regional rep in Baltimore and also he said he knew nothing about it! So we started our test drive and guess what? The check engine light came on! Fan clutch! What a wonderful eat crow moment for that sales guy! Needless to say we will not be buying our 45LP from that stealership.
Hi…
Yes, it is something the dealers may not know about. If you are looking to order one to be built, the good news is you will have the new one as by the time yours is built, the new ones will be in. But even if not having it built, you will be able to get the new one without issues. We should have the test one installed next week if all goes well with the 3rd party testing.
As far as a dealer…Please be so kind to call Danny Davis of Davis Motorhomes in TN. Please let them know we referenced him. Not that we get anything, so it is more of a good will type thing. But they surely gave us the best price out of 6 dealers we contacted.
Oh, a walk though of our 45LP is coming soon. :) Stay tuned! (Subscribed)
We would love to hear more about your new 45LP
You can read some about it here on the site and see two videos from us about it. The walk through video is 26 mins long. Click Here to see the page.
Actually I have been in touch with Mr. Davis and let him know that you recommended him highly. We are waiting for 2015 order info but took the opportunity to test drive one nearby.
Beautiful pics from your Florence getaway! Hope you’re back on the road soon!
Does McFarland park have a “stay limit” meaning you may only stay there a certain amount of time…one week, two weeks…etc., and then you have to leave? Do they have a Park Host?
HI…Three week max in season then you move out and back in. Shhhhhhh. :) Their is a camp host at the entrance when you arrive. Use cash unless you want to hand write your card info for her then to take it somewhere else to be charged.
David,
We just purchased a 2015 LP. Can the floor lights in the kitchen and bedroom be used as night lights. It seems strange that they are only on when the lights are on.
Thanks
Really have enjoyed your videos
On our 2015 the we have a Base Accent light button and are ON or Off and it is also tied into the ceiling cloud. So both would be on at the same time (Base and cloud). We also have a Bed Accent light button in ours which just turns on the floor lighting in the bedroom and bathroom. I know the programming may be different in the 2015 version. We personally find them too bright for nightlights and we really like out Nest Smoke detectors that have “pathway lighting” that has a nice soft light that dims up and down when you go into an area. Like we have one in the back closet, which we leave the door open all the time, and at night if we get up and go into the back bath for some reason, it sees us and it turns on a nice, perfect brightness light. We also have one in the front of the coach which does the same. :) Not sure any of this helps. :) We LOVE the 45LP plan!!! Great coach floor plan!!!
