Well, you may be asking yourself what’s in Keene, Texas. Or better yet, where the heck IS Keene, Texas? Well, Keene is only about 20 minutes south of Fort Worth, TX. Keene is a nice get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Yet it’s close enough to go to dinner and see the sites. It’s also a small college town with the Southwestern Adventist University as the main focus of Keene.
Keene is right next to Cleburne, Texas where all your shopping and more restaurants would be. We stayed a week and a half in this lovely RV Ranch RV Park in Keene while looking around for a new motorhome and decompressing from shopping for new motorhomes. For those of you that have shopped around for a new motorhome, I don’t have to tell you that it can get very frustrating and upsetting at times. Keene is just down the road, about 7 miles east of Alvarado, TX where their are several motor coach dealers. We actually came to this area to take a closer look at the Enterga coaches.
Sad to say, we are still looking and debating about the pluses and minuses of both companies, Entegra, Tiffin as well as a third company, Newmar. We do feel ourselves leaning towards the Tiffin Allegro Bus 45LP though. As you know, we’ve been looking for a new motorhome for quite some time now and all of these decisions and discussions make for a long few months. The RV Ranch was a great place to decompress. Nice people in the park and nice people that run the park. We actually were excited to see that the owners were our age! So we really hit it off and now have some new friends.
We were invited over to see the house that they were building and met their horse Diego and their two donkey’s Mildred and Jackson. After we left, just recently, they have acquired a second horse for Diego to have a friend. Her name is Honey. We look forward to going back and hanging out with our new friends and meeting Honey.
David also took this time to clean our air filter.
It’s quite a project because it’s an oil based air filter. So you have to rinse it all out, wait for it to dry, then oil it back up.
Sorry no pictures of the clean filter. David was so anxious to get it all put back together that he forgot to take a picture of the newly clean filter. You’ll just have to take our word for it.
David also got his quadcopter out and shot the RV Ranch. Another great video if I do say so myself, and I do. The video is below. I hope you enjoy it as much as he enjoys putting them together for you.
One afternoon we took about a 20 minute drive to Godly, TX to a Mexican restaurant that I found with really good online reviews. Apparently this was THE PLACE to go to for Mexican.
Their is nothing else is Godly and the restaurant is in a really unassuming building that used to be an old gas station. We were their in the middle of the afternoon so it was pretty empty. However while we were there eating they had quite a few take out orders. So they do keep busy and rightfully so.
Del Norte Taco did not disappoint. It was REALLY-GOOD-FOOD. They are known for their BBQ brisket so we had to try it in a fajita along with the fish (Tilapia) and chicken tacos.
If you ever find yourself remotely in this area, do yourself a favor and make a trip to Godly to eat at Del Norte Taco. People come from all over to eat here. You will not be disappointed.
So what else did we do? Well, believe it or not, we went to a cat show.
Yup, you heard me right…
A cat show.
You see, their were some nice rver’s that came into the park and we noticed something different about them. They were walking their cats. Now we’ve seen this from time to time but they had multiple cats that they were walking at once.
So of course, we had to say Hi and introduce ourselves. They mentioned that they were in town for a cat show at the convention center.
Interesting.
So what does one do at a cat show? Well, you basically just walk around and look at cats. Yes, it was judged. Their were actually multiple categories and they each had their own judging table. We had a good conversation with a woman who had a Maine Coon in the competition. She was having fun trying to explain everything to us. Their really is a lot of technicalities that go into this.
I’m not saying it was something we’d do again but it was something different to do.
It certainly was outside our bubble.
Oh..and they have some really cool bugs out here.
Nature is not all just horses, donkeys and bird watching you know.
How often can you say you’ve seen a stick bug?
Well, now you have.
hey there! when the kids were younger, we used to enter their rabbits and chickens in the county fair – it was just like your cat show, only for rabbits and chickens! yes, there are certainly some difficult criteria to meet if you want a blue (green or purple) ribbon! Not so much red or white..just sayin.
While you’re searching for a new RV, don’t forget about Foretravel, made right here in Nacagdoches, TX, just north of Houston. Pretty country and there’s one RV park just north of town that is not much more than a field with power & sewer pipes, but the people are WONDerful, and they have horses too!
I suggest you go with the Tiffin Allegro Bus. We have been living in our 2007 Phaeton full time now for three years. We bought it new and finally sold the house. The key point about Tiffin: Bob Tiffin stands behind his product. In the past few years they have authorized service centers in various parts of the country so that you don’t have to go to Red Bay for all the work. But go to Red Bay you might for upgrades from folks that have set up their own shops. Best of luck.
Thanks Howard.
Yes, we are looking at a Tiffin Allegro Bus 45LP.
We have a Tiffin 2004 Allegro Bus 40′ with 3 slides and the 400HP engine and have not been sorry that we picked the coach over the rest for workmanship and performance. I would strongly suggest you stop by Red Bay and go through the Tiffin factory and see for yourself. They are wonderful people. Mr. Tiffin is one of the best people you have ever met.
Agreed about Bob Tiffin. We met him when we were at the factory and again while we were walking around Santa Fe. He was there with his wife on vacation and he remembered meeting us and asked if we had come to a decision about a coach. He really is a uniquely wonderful person.
Dang I love the shots from the air. I have watched a few of them now. I bought a helicopter and attached a GoPro camera to it but it is far far from a good setup. Plus it is horrible with even the slightest breeze. I need to look into your setup.
Isn’t looking for a new rig fun,,, or not LOL!! We are I the middle of it ourselves. We bought our 2007 Tiffin new and have had great luck with it. In fact I think we will be going to Tiffin again within a few weeks. Good luck with your search,, AND KEEP ON FLYIN!!
Looks like a real pretty RV Park. We’ll be heading to TX in Jan but staying further south. Good luck on the RV hunt….its a big decision :-)
That very nice pool you are showing in your aerial view of RV Ranch – Keene, TX is for adults only. If you have kids or grand kids you will have to go to a different area of the park that is not as nice looking. Also the kid pool area had old broken down furniture. Also the nice fishing pond is not fenced off to prevent small children from wondering into it.
We decided to find someplace that was more family friendly.
Yes, you are correct in that the pool we show is an adult only pool. It is actually in the adult only section of the rv park which is what attracted us to this park. It’s difficult to find an rv park that has an adult only section and since we do not have kids, that was right up our alley.
As far as not having a fence around the pond? Yes that is true however in all our travels since 2008, it is rare to find a pond with a fence. We’ve been to many KOA’s, which are not our preferred campgrounds as they are geared towards kids, and I have yet to see a fence around their fishing ponds. I’m sure it’s all in the regulations of the town and whether a fence is required.
Now every rv park is going to work for all people. This one in Keene worked perfectly for us. Sorry it did not work out for you. There is a Jellystone Campground right up the road with a water park attached to it. That may be more up your alley.
