Baby Crow on Deck Steps

Baby Crow on Deck Steps

While home David and I enjoy watching many wild animals on our 4 acres of property.  The deer and her fawn running through the back yard.  Canada Geese raising there young every year on our property.  Many wild birds, and now this. This is something we’ve definitely never seen before.

For a couple of days now we’ve been watching two crows feed their two babies.  While both babies have left the nest, we’ve read that they still rely on there parents for food and safety.  I say safety because it could be a few days before the babies can fly.  Well, the one baby can fly now, so he flies off with the parents into the trees.  The other baby can not fly yet.

So we’ve watched as this baby hops along the ground trying to fly and get to his parents.  Sad to watch, but you can’t interfere with nature.

Well today the younger baby flew a little bit along the ground.  The parents showed him how to use our bird bath for water.  Which is a good thing because it is 93 degrees today.  Then, as the evening crept closer the parents with the one baby flew off leaving the other on the ground.  He hopped along looking for food and apparently decided our back deck was a good place.  So he hopped up the steps and just sat there looking for food.  No…we didn’t feed him.  Drove the cats crazy though.  If our kitties were not indoor kitties, the crow certainly would have thought twice about the deck.

Just thought we’d share our crow story with you all while we dream about getting back on the road.  We’re aiming to have a trial outing with the kitties next week.  We’ll let you know how that works out.
