Some wiring was still needing to get hooked up.
The pilot and co-pilot chairs get installed.
Kitchen Table Getting Installed
Kitchen table and chairs get added. Cabinet doors get inspected before getting installed.
Then we got word that the big slide was done.
Side note: The Tiffin people had noticed something wrong with the original big (galley) slide. So they made the decision to totally rebuild the box which takes a few hours. As it was the end of the day, the box had to be done the next day. Instead of holding up the production line, the coach continued down the line without the big slide.
With the box finally done it was time to install it. The only problem was the coach was at the end of the production line now.
So the slide and the crew had to come to the coach. Guiding it all the way through the factory, dodging people, other coaches and all sorts of factory stuff.
That was interesting.
As you can see, it was a tight space to work in. Not what they are used to but the guys were great and got the slide in quickly.
It takes a few men to get the slide in. Once it was in place it was time for the team to come back and finish off what they had started in the rest of the coach.
The cabinet doors and valence had to be installed and the kitchen sink and that cabinetry had to be finished off.
This picture looks like we’re trying to set a new record on how many people you can fit into one coach. At one point I counted 14! We could never fit that many people in our current coach.
Help! David got eaten by the bedroom slide.
Just kidding. Sorry. When I saw this I had to include it in the blog.
You know David. He’s on the floor, under the bed checking out what’s under there. But in this case it was for a good reason because I noticed when we brought the slide in, there is a real nice place that our furry kids could get into during travel. So I asked David to check it out.
Once the crew was done finishing up the slide area it was one last drive to the “wet” bay.
This is where they hook up the water lines and test for any leaks. Fill the tanks and empty. Fill and run the Aqua Hot system.
No leaks!
So that’s the end of our day 4 in the main plant (day 6 of the build).
Now I wish I could take advantage of the new mattress that they installed today. My commute would go from 1 mile to a few steps.
Ok, now for the long time lapse from today. It is long as it was a 9 hour day because of the slide needed to be redone and all the work that goes with it needed to be caught up on. On the time lapse you will see all the workers in the coach at one time. It’s a great coach, look at all the space! Enjoy…
David,
Another great day of photos! Thanks again — better than any factory presentation.
Couple of questions:
Which cabinets do you have?
And what is your prototype sofa?
We have the Glazed Honey cabinets and then the white glazed in the bathroom.
As for the couch, all I can say at this time is I did pay for it. It was not given to me to test or anything like that. But it is a couch that I worked with some people on and I bought it regardless if it worked or not or if Tiffin would end up using it later. So, I took the hit for the test as I was not going to buy the 45LP with the current couch in it, only to have to pull it and spend a few thousand on a replacement that would work.
We ended up having to make some slight mods to the “end table” (really? They have to call it that?) to get it to fit based on the curved arms. But all came out well.
Curious about your new couch — is it more comfortable than the standard couch?
Please have complained about the stock unit.
Getting close; very exciting!! What a great pictorial essay that you, and others, will be able to enjoy for years to come!
Thanks. We are having fun with it.
Fantastic presentation of the Tiffin family build process…the QC is passing muster…great PR for them…Really baffles the mind as to what happened in your previous experience…would be interesting to be a fly on the wall in that top office.
You and your dear wife have allowed the bulk of the watching public to go to school. The very idea you could be onsite and on product as your unit was in the build process. Kudos to Tiffin for this series of videos.
Hi…
In regards to the Kudos for Tiffin, do you mean for allowing us to do it? I only ask for I wanted to be sure you knew we made the videos, not Tiffin. :)
And yes, it is great to be onsite and great they offer it. I am glad we are able to help other see what goes into it!
Well “The Day” is almost here! Congratulations.
David, Who put the red X on your back.
I also think it is great that you are allowed to be there for the build. You will really know all about your coach from the inside out.
Two favorite moments, when you were sitting right in the middle and people were working all around you, and when the slides came in and everybody was sitting around as the coach was moved to another place. Very cool!
Boy, what a lovely coach, by an awesome team. Is it weird I’m cheering for your last day, seating it was 7 years ago and you don’t even know me? Oh well, cheers anyway. Wow. You better LIVE in that thing. I mean really LIVE. Hugs, from Wisconsin!
Greetings…Thanks for the note and yes, we are still living in the coach full time owning no land or other home. It will be a full 8 years in two months as we head into our 9th. It’s been quite the “ride”. :)
