Our last day at Picacho Peak State Park started nice. Beautiful sunrise. Not a cloud in the sky.
We had plans to go for a bike ride and meander a bit. What we found was Rooster Cogburn’s Ostrich Ranch. We decided to go in and check it out.
What a hoot! David and I were able to feed deer, goats, ostrich, donkey’s and Rainbow Lorikeets. I know it doesn’t sound like much, feeding these animals, but we had a lot of fun.
The Rainbow Lorikeets are these really beautiful rainbow colored birds that flock all over you when you have food in your hands. David shot a video that you can see below.
The deer, donkey and ostrich are out on huge acres of land that you can go up and feed them. At a fence of course. The ostrich were not my favorite. They peck at your hand pretty hard and can bite. I left the ostrich feeding to David.
I opted to feed the more gentle creatures, the deer, donkey and goats. Feeding the goats was interesting. The owners of this ranch made a wall with holes in it for the goats to stick there heads thru and get fed. Not sure if this serves some sort of function or if it’s just for the tourists.
The donkeys and deer were gentle and they just licked your hand clean.
We had a fun day of feeding the animals, riding our bikes and watching the sun set.
OMG…I want one!!! Oh so very pretty…hey, did you notice that the birds are the same color as the sunset? Hmmmm, I just might be onto something here…anyone need a subject for a thesis?
Glad you are finding such interesting places!
Be happy…
Hugs!
We just got 23 inches of snow in 24 hours! I’m living vicariously through you guys right now…
Who would have thought that an ostrich would be so fierce! It’s always weird to me when animals that you are feeding might consider biting you.
