While in the Viking area you have to take a trip into St. Anthony. It’s only about 45 minutes south of the viking area, but it’s worth the ride.
St. Anthony has a small cove called Goose Cove Bay. This, my dear friends is were the icebergs go. And they say this year, they have had more icebergs than ever. Global warming? Naaahh. But it sure is nice of Mother Nature to break off chunks of herself for our amusement.
Goose Cove Bay is a delightful little fishing village just down the street from the town of St. Anthony. The icebergs in this area drift here from Greenland.

A Fishing Boat Going Out From Goose Cove Bay
It’s such a popular destination for tourists that the village built a park and walking paths around the cliffs so visitors can view them easily.
David And Brenda At Goose Cove Bay With The Icebergs In The Background
It was an overcast day and windy, which made it cool, to down right cold. The thermostat said it was in the 50’s, but with the wind coming off the bay, it felt colder. And with no sun, that didn’t help the matter.
All along the path are wildflowers. So pretty on the cloudy day.
Aha…all that walking around, strolling around, meandering around, driving around, looking around and still…not one freaking MOOSE! See?
I bet you did not see one single MOOSE fossil either, did you?
Sigh…
Perhaps this is a job for Myth Busters?
Lots of great stuff in Newfoundland to enjoy…thanks for sharing! I wonder how they get the icebergs to that one place? Do you think that they tow them? They can’t use motorboats for that…too risky that the tourists might see them. Hmmmm…oh got it….trained dolphins! Such pretty wildflowers and so interesting to see them with icebergs in the background! I love how they grow on the rocks. I wish you could bring some home with you! I’d love to have them in my garden! Oh well.
Life in Newfoundland does seem peaceful and easy going. The little fishing villages are quaint and the lighthouses are cool too. What kind of fishing do they do? Is it all for residents or do the ship globally? I would like to know cost comparisons…like how much is a gallon of milk? Loaf of bread? Gallon of gas? Not that I would want to live there…too cold for me! But let me know the costs if you get a chance, please!
Love yas,
Hugs
