And so it begins.
Another year has past.
Another is upon us.
What will this year hold for us?
Who knows.
This past year we’ve had our ups and our downs.
We sold our house, sold and donated all of our possessions, packed up the cats into the motorhome and hit the road for a life of full-timing.
We’ve hit some bumps in the road.
Not taking possession of the new Winnebago Tour that we had ordered.
(I won’t get into why but you can read all about it here)
David having two kidney stone surgeries and in turn being held up in Madison, Wisconsin for a month instead of the two days that we had planned.
And this was all in the first couple of months of our full-timing life. Not having fun so far.
But then things started to turn around.
The Badlands, SD
We finally started our trek west and hit The Badlands National Park in South Dakota for some much needed down time and relaxation. David built another quadcopter and was able to shoot some awesome video of the Badlands. My favorite video so far.
We finally met up with some friends, Geeky Explorers, in Custer, SD and in turn we met some new friends.
Mt Rushmore, SD
Crazy Horse, SD
We hit the highlights in South Dakota. Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse.
We drove the famous Needles Loop Highway in the Black Hills of South Dakota. We also drove the Wildlife Loop in Custer State Park, also in that area.
On through Nebraska we hit some wild weather. After an awesome night of lightning all around us (miles away mind you) lighting up the sky in Nebraska, we awoke to fog. And not only the really cool fog surrounding Chimney Rock National Monument but a fog rainbow. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of those before.
Then it was time to move on and more south. Met some new friends to fly with in Denver. Then we met up with some friends at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta and continued traveling with them to Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Still searching for a new motorhome to call home, we headed to Texas to some large dealerships to check out some options up close and personal. In turn, we met some great rv park owners, RV Ranch of Keene, who we now call friends.
Heading even more south we had an awesome time getting to know some of our wounded warriors in the Segs4Vets.org organization. We are honored to be a part of this organization and be a part of something great.
After many months and talking things over, we finally decided on a new coach and ordered our new Tiffin Allegro 45LP Bus. We will be taking delivery of this in February of this year.
Can’t wait!
So what do we have planned for 2014?
Well, their’s the new coach.
Their’s heading back to upstate New York in the summer to visit with family and friends. Not to mention eating wonderful meals at our favorite haunts.
But what we’re really looking forward to is…
Volunteering at the Grand Canyon for 3 months!
What an opportunity. To work directly with the Park Rangers, help people throughout the park and learn a whole bunch about such an awe inspiring place.
So as you can see, we have some exciting things coming up.
And who knows what else life will have in store for us.
Here’s hoping 2014 will be a stellar year!
It looks like you have had a pretty good year except for a couple little things. Here’s hoping 2014 will be even better!!!
And darn you for showing those movies with your Quad copter. Yu have me researching,, and when I start researching it normally costs me money!!
Sorry about that Dave. My husband has that affect on people (spending money).
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year. You two and all the kitties are thought of all the time. Especially when we drive past Bella Pasta, which is a weekly occurrence. You both are greatly missed but we hope to catch up soon. Please hug the kitties for me and hug each other as a form of a hug from me.
Awww…Terri you both are missed too. Hopefully the Spring will go quickly and we’ll be back before you know it. A dinner at Bella Pasta will be a must.
Happy New Year to you both!
Well hi and Happy New Year to both of you. Hoping that the year will offer the two of you many happy days and safe travels. We live In Chattanooga Tn. We have a 2011 cougar 35 ft. Travel trailer that’s we pull with a 2005 3500 dully Chevy Silverado With 18,000 miles on it. We have traveled some but not full time. I love the quad copter , it is so neat getting to see up above the trees. Anxious to see the new motor coach. Thank you so much for sharing your travels with all of us. You are so appreciated. Sincerely,
Bob and Carol
Thanks Bob and Carol. We hope this new year will fill all our friends with health and happiness.
Chattanooga, TN is a lovely area. We’d love to explore it more as we’ve only passed through there.
And yes, we’re anxious to see the new coach too. Can’t wait!
Good summary of your year as full-timers. We are still part-time. Florida for two months in the winter and Jackson, WY for the 4th of July. Our 2005 Meridian still runs after 85000 miles and no polution controls. We have gone solo to Alaska three times since 1993 so if you decide to go might give you saome spots to see.If you are in the Schenectady/Saratoga area let us know.
Thanks Dick. We’ve been wanting to go to Alaska in the MH as we’ve been there a couple of times via a cruise ship.
Happy travels!
Great synopsis of your year! Thank you for allowing us to travel with you….I enjoy every minute!
Happy New Year…2014 will be great for all of us…2013 sucked for a number of reasons…this year WILL be much better!
Much love and many hugs to you and the furkids!
Brenda,
It was a long crazy year, but 2014 sounds like it could really be great! Your plans for work sound much better than mine though!
Keith
Thanks Keith. Yes it was a really crazy year and we’re hoping 2014 will be better.
We hope to meet up with you and Tricia some time again. Safe travels!
Hope you have a GREAT 2014!
You too Eric! Happy New Year. Hope it’s a healthy and happy one for us all.
How cool – volunteering @ Grand Canyon. Will you be in the South or North Rim. I worked for GRCA for 6 years before retirement in 2011, I really miss the beautiful canyon. Have a wonderful time there. Can’t wait to see your new coach in a couple months. That will be so exciting to have a new home.
Hi Becki. We’re really looking forward to volunteering with the Park Rangers there. We’ll be at the South Rim but I’m sure with our time off we’ll be all over that beautiful canyon. We plan on being there from April to mid-July.
And yes, we’re looking forward to our new coach too. It’s been a long time coming for us.
Sounds like you’ve got a great year planned with your nice new coach. I’m really looking forward to seeing your QuadCopter videos from the Grand Canyon !! [Not sure what flight restrictions there may be there … hopefully they’re not too restrictive]
