Getting Work Done At Focal Woodwork
Don’t get me wrong, it was nice to have a tv directly across from our couch. No strained necks while trying to view tv from the front of the coach like so many coach manufacturers do. Why they do that is beyond me. I personally don’t think they care or think about the tv placement. But I digress.
We went back to Carlyle at Focal Wood. He has done great work for us in the past. Here’s a link to that post.
So with a plan in our heads and some what on paper, we made an appointment with Carlyle.
Once we explained it and he did his measurements, we were on our way. Set to come back in about 10 days and install the final product. We had a trade show to attend to between then, so the wait worked out well.
The day before the install, David and I got to the ripping out of the old tv cabinet.
Old TV Cabinet Getting Ripped Out
There’s a lot of parts to the old tv cabinet. We are still completely confused and perplexed as to how Gulfstream installed this tv cabinet to begin with. I say this because when it came time to lift the cabinet out, it wouldn’t budge. It was actually screwed into the floor, behind the back panel. Yet the back panel was screwed into place before the cabinet went in. Weird. They must have installed it before the wall went in. That’s the only explanation we could come up with.
Anyway… with a lot of muscle, David did manage to get it free.
TV Cabinet Free
The new cabinet fit perfectly between the window valances.
We used the same tv lift. So David installed that.
David had to accommodate for the new tv height, so he had to put the tv lift on a block of wood so it would clear the bottom of the cabinet.
TV Lift Fits
The face of the cabinet matches the other cabinet doors nicely. The top of the cabinet is actually screwed onto the top of the lift. So the entire top comes up with the tv.
We had to wait until we got home to install the tv, a new 46 inch, as the tv was bought at our local electronics store, The Stereo Shop. Shopping local is always good.
David was dying to get the new tv in. This would tell us if all our dimensions were correct. No pressure!
Success!
It fits. It goes up and down without issue. It looks wonderful.
Carlyle had also built us some inserts to place on the top of the cabinet, under the lifted tv, so the cabinet still looked finished and their wasn’t a giant opening where the tv just lifted from.
Wowee…sure looks great! Yep, it does seem to open it up more and everything fit so perfectly…after some head scratching anyway. You guys are so clever!
Hugs….
This is BEAUTIFUL. Congratulations.
Would you mind telling us what TV Lift you used? My wife and I want to do something similar. Thanks!
Hi…
I am sorry to say I am not fully sure as I used the left that was already in the coach. When I looked it up some time back, I do recall it was actually a table lift made for raising and lowering a office work table. ;)
This is a great post, I think you should turn it into a 2 or 3 part series.
