Ontario Beach Park In Rochester, NY

So what did I do after I dropped David off at the airport at 5am?  Well, not wanting to go home quite yet, I went to our Ontario Beach Park to watch the sun rise.  It’s only about 10 minutes from our house, so it’s not like I was going out of my way.  Plus, how often am I up at 5am?  Not very.

Once I got their the sun was just rising over the water.  Not bad timing, if I do say so myself.

Ontario Beach Park, as I mentioned earlier, is only about 10 minutes from our house.  I don’t know why we don’t get there more often.  It’s a nice big park right on the shores of Lake Ontario.  In the summer they offer free concerts and movies under the stars.  There’s volleyball nets and a nice long pier to walk down.

There’s a beach that you can picnic on and watch the surf.  A community building, picnic shelters and a pretty big playground.  Their are restaurants near by and our famous Abbott’s Frozen Custard, a Rochester staple, which always has a huge line in the summer.  And I can’t forget the historic 1905 Dentzel hand carved carousel.  Granted landmark status in 1980 by the preservation board, it has the distinction of being one in only fourteen operating antique menagerie caroursel’s in the country.  It’s also one of a few that still reside in it’s original location.

A boardwalk separates the beach from the grassy park. Lots of grass and room to roam.

I had a nice time just walking around with no one else in site.  It was very peaceful listening to the waves lap ashore and the birds sing in the trees.

It would have been better if David was with me and not 30,000 feet up on his way to Ohio.  Oh well.  At least he’s home safe and sound and we can plan a day to get up early and see the sun rise together at the beach.
