The Mountains Are Visible In The Background As You Drive Into Denver

We had a lovely day for driving from Nebraska to Aurora, CO, just south of Denver. We had to be in Denver for a trade show that we attend every year. As we drove into the area the mountains started coming into view in the distance. What a beautiful site.

We were meeting up with some friends that also attend the trade show every year and travel in a motorhome. They had suggested staying at the Cherry Creek State Park Campground.

Boy, are we glad they did. This is a lovely and large state park that is very well maintained. They have huge sites that easily fit our 43 foot motorhome and to top it off, they have 50 amp full hook ups!

They have a large lake that can accommodate motorboats as well as kayaks, jet skies and what ever else tickles your fancy.  A swim beach (for when theirs nicer, warmer weather), lots of picnic areas with grills around the lake and miles and miles of walking and bike paths.

I took advantage of the gorgeous views of the walking paths. The only complaint I really have is the walking and bike paths are not marked. So while you are out walking or biking you don’t know whether to turn right or left to stay on the path that you have chosen. Oh well.

It was a beautiful time of the year to visit. Cool nights and warm days. The fall colors were making their way around the park.

And the wildlife! Magpies everywhere and tons of deer. While sitting outside enjoying the fresh air it would not be unusual to see a pack of deer making their way through the campground. They were very familiar with people coming and going.

This picture was taken from just outside our front door. And this happened every evening.

David met up with a gentleman, Alex, that had been following his quadcopter videos and our travels for a while now. Alex and his wife Helen were on the road and decided to make their way here to the state park to meet up and get some flying in.

You see, Cherry Creek State Park also has a flying field. So this was ideal for the two of them to go flying. While at the field they met Steve. A local gentleman that comes there to fly often.

They all hit it off and flew around for a couple days. As you can see from the picture they are all watching the quadcopter through the camera’s point of view. Alex had a large viewing platform on a tripod that he carried with him and David and Steve were watching through David’s FPV goggles (he has 2 pairs).

One day our friend Jay had joined David and donned the FPV goggles for a different point of view.

Fun was had by all. David’s video is below.

The evenings were filled with beautiful sunsets and campfires with our friends Jay and JoAnne. Yes, I know my sunset picture has Walmart in it. I was doing some shopping and this is what I came outside to. Just beautiful!

Our last evening some weather was coming in. Not a good sign for waking the next morning and traveling.

This is what we woke to.

A dusting of heavy wet snow. Raining and snowing. Cold and very windy. We actually had to get out our brooms and swipe off the wet snow from the slide toppers. It was so thick and iced over a little that the slides did not want to come in.

This did not make for a good traveling day.
