We made it! We left Rochester, NY in 18 degree weather, on Thursday. 12 1/2 hours later and much much warmer, we made it to Gaffney, SC, where it’s currently 51 degrees at 5:30pm as I type this.
This is were we will be for the next few days. We have an appointment on Wednesday to get some routine maintenance work done. We wanted to get here early enough because if they can take us early, they will. Plus, we had to leave Rochester when we did because another winter storm was coming our way. We had our window of opportunity and we took it.
The roads were actually much better than we thought they’d be. They were nice and clear, and dry. The only down side…road salt. Their was so much road salt the coach actually looked gray when we pulled in here. Sorry to say, I didn’t get a picture before David whipped out the hose to clean it all off. So below you will see a picture of our tow vehicle, rinsed off with water, but not cleaned yet with soap. What a wreck! I think David was secretly happy I didn’t think about taking a picture of the coach until it was too late. He likes to keep it spotless and these last few days on the road wreaked havoc on it.
So we’re here, in Gaffney, SC just hanging out until our appointment. If you are ever in the area, or even just passing by, this service center is definitely a must for anyone with a freightliner chassis. The people here are very knowledgeable and very accommodating, not to mention super nice. It’s an Oasis stop so there is a place to plug in, a dump station and watering station which is nice.
And I must say, as soon as we hit the warmer weather, the 40’s and 50’s, all be it not summer weather, Tasha is enjoying it. She laid outside on her blanket as David washed off the rig, protecting him the entire time. She loves it so.
Gosh, look at the happy faces!!!
I was following your trip south, and realized when you were on 79, if you would have gone east on 68 at Morgantown, you were only 5 mi from our WV home. Unfortunately we are still in Solomons, Md. Hopefully, we’ll get back there this week. We are ready to ski. Still planning to head west in March.. Richard&Elle
Ahhhh, memories coming back here….VW Bus…the preferred transportation of Hippies and Flower Children of the 60s!!! So many of these buses, decorated with Flower Power, at Woodstock, jamming the one road to the farm. But, as the saying goes: “If you remember the 60s, you didn’t do them right!” How did the Bug-Bus you spotted, escape? That Bus in the picture must be owned by one of the premier mechanics in the country!
I bet you saw them because they are STILL on their way home from the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear in Washington DC! (That’s why they have suitcases on top!) I saw lots of folks who are STILL living in the 60s at the Rally. Did you notice if the driver had long, grey hair and was wearing a tie-dyed shirt with a few love beads around his/her neck?
Please be advised that that I said “his/her” because Hippies and Flower Children, of both sexes, dressed the same, had hair the same length, wore flowers in their hair and wore tie-dyed clothing, beads, strange hats and both used ponchos for warmth….men had beards though, so you could tell them apart from the women. You, D & B, are of course, too young to have “experienced” the 60’s.
A truly great time in American History…”Sex, Drugs and Rock-& Roll” was the rally cry of the decade…the Peace Sign was invented (the importance of which was validated centuries later by the fact that it formed the basis of the Vulcan sign of greeting), Bands performed for FREE at Woodstock (how the hell did that happen??? There were no Sponsors buying 30 or 60 second TV spots…it was only shown on news clips for goodness sake!), Love was flowing (or was that just the drugs?), you shared whatever you had with everyone else, no schedules, just hung around, no job to go to, everyone shared the care of the kids, the food, the tenements…ahhh those were the days.
Wait!!! Oh, no!!! Holy Crap…I remember all that! I actually remember all that without having to Google it…Darn…aw gee…I didn’t do the 60s right…I remember them….
Mom and I read all this. We hope it is warmer for you. We will keep in touch with you. Love you, Mom and Dad
Wow…What a great journey again! you all inspire me. Although that first day out, I’d probably be like Whisper- KNOCKED out with that good rockin’ motion of the RV!
Have fun you all!
